Isabella Smokey

Fall 2024 WZGT Scholarship Award

The Wà:šiw Zùlšiš Gum T’ànu Fall 2024 College Student Scholarship will be awarded to Isabella Smokey. This Fall semester, Isabella will be attending the University of Nevada Reno as a freshman majoring in Environmental Science. As a true 7th generation Native woman, Isabella is passionate about protecting nature, the animals and the ecosystem on the planet. This summer she participated in a California Naturalist class with several Washoe Tribal Members; as a result her capstone project involves a plan to install bee hotels in Spring 2025 to attract Native pollinators to the Tribe's Resilience Garden South of Dresslerville. We (WZGT Board of Directors) are proud to present Isabella with this award of $1000 in support of her education and we look forward to seeing her shine through her dreams and endeavors.

Congratulations to Isabella Smokey, and gratitude to her family for raising a bright and culturally grounded young woman. We look forward to seeing your contributions and we wish you well as you begin your first year of college! Onward!
